Plastic eye surgery
- Blefarochalasis: This is more typically called ‘the bags’ on
the upper and lower eyelid. These bags appear due to the age related
relaxation of the skin and tissues and fat around the eye.
It can be treated surgically by reducing the quantity of fat and skin
around the eye. This surgery is performed ambulant and under local
anaesthesia.
This wound is stitched and after a week they are removed without leaving
any kind of scar.
- Ptosis of the upper eyelid: This means lower hanging of the
upper eyelid. The reasons are various: 70% come from birth.
Ptosis can be treated surgically, and the technique used depends on the
underlying cause of the ptosis and the rest function of the muscle. This
technique is ambulant and under local anaesthesia. For children however, a
general anaesthesia is used.
