AGE RELATED MACULAR DEGENERATION

Age related macular degeneration is a degeneration of the retina at the level of the macula. The macula is the central zone of the retina which is very sensitive and necessary for the accurate vision for far and even more at short distance. Age related macula degeneration is an affection more frequent above 65 years old. It is above all when reading that the patient complains about a deformed image. This affection is detected by a routine general examination of the retina and/or by fluoresceïne angiography. In certain cases, laser treatments are necessary to stabilise the progression of the disease.
