AGE RELATED MACULAR DEGENERATION
Age related macular degeneration is a degeneration of the retina at
the level of the macula. The macula is the central zone of the retina
which is very sensitive and necessary for the accurate vision for far
and even more at short distance. Age related macula degeneration is an
affection more frequent above 65 years old. It is above all when reading
that the patient complains about a deformed image. This affection is
detected by a routine general examination of the retina and/or by
fluoresceïne angiography. In certain cases, laser treatments are
necessary to stabilise the progression of the disease.
